Treating mental illness in Sudan





In recent years, many Americans have embraced non-Western forms of medicine. Patients in the U.S. often seek herbalists, massage therapists, and acupuncturists to complement their visits to MD’s. In the African nation of Sudan, there’s a similar phenomenon underway – in reverse. People there who suffer mental illnesses increasingly seek out psychiatrists to complement their visits to spiritual healers. This report aired on PRI's "The World".
