George Mark Children's House: End of life care for kids
In 1998, pediatric psychologist Kathy Hull and her colleague, pediatric oncologist Barbara Beach, decided to create a place for children who are faced with terminal illness. Six years later, the doors were opened at George Mark House- the first and only freestanding residential children's end of life facility in the US. Kathy Hull won Maria Shriver’s Minerva Award last year for establishing George Mark House. I visited the House in San Leandro,CA, and asked Hull to give me a tour.

Update: I'm sad to report that, as of March 2010, and due to budget cuts, the George Mark Children's House will be "suspending operations" until further notice.
Update: I'm thrilled to report that as of May 2011, the George Mark Children's House has re-opened!
